Sylvia had al jarenlang gezegd dat ze me Seattle wilde laten zien, omdat dat zo’n leuke stad is. Nou, dat klopt!
Sylvia has told me some years ago she would like to show me around in Seattle. And finally she did!
Het straatbeeld doet meer aan een „echte” stad denken dan dat van Tacoma of Olympia.
After Tacoma and Olympia Seattle is a big city. Still the atmosphere is much more relaxed than is most other big cities.

Eén van de trekkers van Seattle is de openbare bibliotheek, ontworpen door architect Rem Koolhaas.

De hoeveelheid boeken en tijdschriften is gigantisch, overwegend Engelstalig, maar ook een vloer met buitenlandse werken, met name Chinees en Spaans. En een (klein) plankje Nederlandse literatuur...

In University Village hebben we de Apple Shop bezocht. Natuurlijk wat groter dan wat we van zo’n winkel gewend zijn. Saillant detail is de afwezigheid van kassa’s. De verkopers hebben elk een kaartlezer voor de klant’s credit card. Een papieren rekening komt desgewenst per e-mail!

Mary Prior, Mensa SIGHT-coördinator voor de regio, heeft de periodieke eetbijeenkomst speciaal voor ons verzet naar een datum dat we erbij kunnen zijn! We stelden dat enorm op prijs. Yanni serveert prima Grieks eten!
