Bremerton
In Bremerton woont BJ, oud-collega en sinds tientallen jaren vriendin van Sylvia, met haar echtgenoot Charlie. De laatste paar dagen van ons verblijf in de VS zijn we bij hen te gast.
Of course a trip to Washington State is not complete without seeing BJ and Charlie. BJ is an ex-colleague and good friend of Sylvia’s since 20 years!
Met zo’n uitzicht op de besneeuwde Olympic Mountains vanuit hun huis zie je wat een uniek plekje ze gevonden hebben.
From their house they have an incredible view on the Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains across the water.
Naast het huis staat de „fifth wheel” waarmee BJ en Charlie regelmatig reizen.

We worden meegenomen naar verschillende bezienswaardigheden in de regio,

zoals fort Nisqually, waar de tijd lijkt te hebben stilgestaan.

Je verwacht elk moment een overval van de Nisqually Indianen!

Een andere bezienswaardigheid is Costco’s. Enigszins te vergelijken met de Makro, maar alweer... veel groter.
Costco is another attraction. Very much 21st century!
Ook BJ heeft een Madrona workshop gevolgd. Dat heeft haar belangstelling voor de breiwereld behoorlijk aangewakkerd. Op Bainbridge Island neemt zij ons mee naar de locale breiwinkel. Sylvia kijkt haar ogen uit: behalve meer en andere wolsoorten dan in West-Europa worden hier ook verschillende malen per week cursussen gegeven.
Bainbridge Island also has a wool shop. Here you can buy wool, but also follow a beginner’s or advanced course.
Aan alles komt een eind... BJ en Charlie brengen ons met de auto naar SeaTac Airport. Zij rijden door naar Seattle. Het inchecken gaat vliegensvlug. Gelukkig kunnen we bij de wereldberoemde Ivar’s een fish-n-chips scoren, want de koosjere maaltijd die we een paar uur later aan boord krijgen geserveerd blijkt stijf bevroren.
Since BJ and Charlie have to drive from Bremerton to Seattle they can drop us off at the airport. Which makes a terrific difference, with our 84 (US) pounds of luggage!
It turned out it was a good idea to have a fish-n-chips before we boarded, because the kosher meal we were served two hours later was still frozen.
