Petra-Eilat

Zondag/Sunday
Laatste dag in Jordanië.

Last day in Jordan.

We start early to Beda, AKA „Little Petra”. This is the village the authorities built for the Bedouins who used to live in caves until quite recently.

This is a Nabatean cistern, cut out by hand in the rock. It contains up to 1.2 million litres of water.

Beda is primarily a caravanseray, as opposed to Petra, where mainly graves and temples can be found.

Verschillende eetzalen en overnachtingsgelegenheden. Watervoorraad voor mens en dier (i.e. kameel).

Dining/sleeping rooms and cisterns, many cisterns.

Underway from Beda to Wadi Rum we stop in Petra again because some are affected by Montezumas Revenge.

On certain spots the road enters the clouds.

Train transporting phosphate to the port of Aqaba.

The people in Wadi Rum get their money mainly from tourism. There is a restaurant, a camp site and there are lots of Toyota 4x4s to make a desert trip

It takes some time before everyone has a place in one of the cars.

Wij kiezen voor een open bak. We zitten de hele dag al achter glas in de bus.

We opt for an open truck. We spend more than enough time behind the window panes of the coach.

This Kurzhauber has the cheapest variety of air conditioning.

The track is a wide sand strip between the impressive rocks.

We stop for a nice cuppa in a Bedouin’s tent

Rotstekeningen. Niemand kan zeggen hoe oud.

Rock carvings from long, long ago.

After the desert trip a nice lunch at the Wadi Rum Restaurant, the former railway station. They even serve excellent French fries.

De camping achter het restaurant.

The Wadi Rum camp ground.

We see a little bit of Aqaba and arrive at the Yitzhak Rabin Crossing. We have to walk with our luggage from Jordan to Israel. The red tape takes a long time, but still half an hour less than the Jordan River Crossing.

Our new tour guide Margalit and driver David are waiting for us with his bus. He drives us to the Eilat Prima Music Hotel. Unfortunately this hotel is in the middle of nowhere on the Eilat-Taba road. A nice evening in town is rather unpractical this way.
